~ SAN AUGUSTIN DAY TRIP, Colombia’s Archaeological Gem

This special UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site is set amongst rolling, coffee planted hills just outside the farming town of San Agustin. The Parque Arqueologico considered to be one Colombia's most important archaeological sites with over 500 statues left by pre-Colombian cultures dating back 5000 years, draws visitors from around the world.

The museum and park are well laid out and informative, with some bilingual (English / Spanish) signs and clearly marked paths. It takes around 3-4 hours to visit the park. One of the secondary sites is Parque Arqueológico Alto de los Ídolos.

An impressive local view point is the Salto de Mortiño waterfall

This destination is special with many secondary attractions in the area including the Estrecho del Río Magdalena. The trip from Popayán is long and very bumpy therefore, we recommend that this trip is done on your way to Neiva and the Desierto de la Tatacoa and Las Termales de Rivera.

~ TIERRADENTRO DAY TRIP, Underground Burial Chambers

This UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site is one of Colombia’s forgotten treasures. Parque Arquelogico Nacional De Tierradentro is made up of a series of pre-Colombian burial tombs and statues. The trip to Tiettadentro is quite an adventure with dramatic canyons and spectacular mountain passes.
